Orphaned at the age of 14, Arshad Warsi was a door-to-door peddler

He is celebrating his 55th birthday today. He was born in a Muslim family in Mumbai. His father Ahmad Ali Khan (Aasiq Hussain) worked as a musician in Hindi films and adopted the name Warsi after becoming a follower of the Sufi saint Waris Ali Shah. Arshad’s father was previously married to Asha Sachdev of Ranjan, with whom he has two children – singer Anwar Hussain and actress Asha Sachdev. Arshad was orphaned at the age of 14 and had to struggle a lot to make ends meet. He also had to drop out of school after class 10.

Arshad Warsi had to go door-to-door selling goods at the age of 14 due to financial constraints. Later he worked in a photo lab. During this time he developed an interest in dance and got an offer to join Akbar Sami’s dance group. He choreographed Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in Roop Ki Rani Choro Ka Raja. He won the Dance India Competition in 1991, later in 1992 he finished fourth in the World Dance Championship. With the money he got for this, he started Dance Studio Awesome.

The first film was due to Jaya Bachchan
Talking about how Arshad Warsi got his break in films, Amitabh Bachchan’s production house ABCL’s debut film ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ was a search for a new face. The film was directed by Doy Augustin, which was also his first project. The film had faces including Chandrawood Singh, Priya Gill and Simran. Arshad once revealed that he became an actor only because of Jaya Bachchan. It was because of him that he got his first film.

Talking about professional life, Arshad Warsi was last seen in the film ‘Bachchan Pandey’ opposite Akshay Kumar, which released in 2022. Apart from this, he appeared in an episode of the web series ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’ released on the OTT platform with Chitrangada Singh. She will again share the screen with ‘Munnabhai’ co-actor Sanjay Dutt, whose name is yet to be decided. Shooting is likely to start from next year.
