IMAX is a motion picture film format, consisting of high-resolution cameras, film formats, film projectors and a system of movie theaters, developed in Canada in the 1970s, IMAX aims to give viewers the best movie-watching experience with its large screen. IMAX theater screens are 1.43:1 or 1.9:1 tall. The screen size can be 18 by 24 meters.

Oppenheimer is shot using a combination of IMAX 65mm and Panavision 65mm and then the footage is projected in 70mm, a technique that the film should only be seen in an IMAX theater so that you get a real feel for the scenes, the action scenes depicted in the film, the scenes with the bomb blasts.
Dhoom 3 was the first Indian film to be released in IMAX in 2013, followed by Pathan in 2023, the first film made using IMAX cameras. Since its introduction in 2001, IMAX has seen little growth in India. There are only 23 theaters in the entire country that are IMAX equipped theaters. The company announced its plan to reach 40 locations in the country in 2018.
